Some of the llamas we saw on the way to Colca Justin having a wander around on one of our rest stops on the way to Colca
An early start as we left for Colca Canyon at 8.30am. Justin was pretty ill with a stomach bug so didn't apprciate the bumpy road for about 2 of the 5 hours. We saw lots of animals on the way there, especially llamas and alpacas.

We also stopped at one place that was 5,000 metres above sea level. Made my head feel like it was full of cotton wool. Luckily we didn't stay up there too long.

After arrival we had lunch and poor Justin had to go to bed for the rest of the day. However, I decided to go on the hike. Well, it was more like a scramble. I think Colca is at about 3,500 metres, and to go on a hike and have to climb up steep hills was possibly not the best idea - lots of us were really puffed out within about 15 minutes, and there was no going back! We did get some lovely views of the area we were staying in, but I was absolutely exhausted afterwards. Luckily we then had the option to go to the hot springs, which was really nice - especially when you've been hiking. It was like a big swimming pool full of hot water, and was lovely when you first got in, but after a little while it was so warm that I had to sit on one of the steps where the top of my body was out of the water.

Then it was back to the hotel for dinner and then to bed. Shortly before bed I decided to see what was behind the little cupboard door in the bathroom, so I opened it, and it turned out to be a window and in the two seconds I had it open about 20 mosquitoes flew in! Maybe I will be less nosey in future.
